Wisdom on Wednesdays—Peace cannot be the principal aim

“Peace, like Beauty, cannot be the principal aim—cannot be directly striven for.  Such neutralities are the result of safeguarding activities, beauty being a by-product of life.  Peace is a secondary result of active justice (not legality) and active charity (not philanthropy).”  (1931)

  1. I never thought that way about beauty — that it cannot be the principal aim. Truth is; goodness is. Or perhaps not. Truth comes from honesty and faith in reality; goodness comes from active love. Hmmm.
